Overview
The eco-friendly nThambo Tree Camp is an enviable location in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, a private Big 5 reserve sharing unfenced borders with the Timbavati Nature Reserve and Kruger National Park. nThambo’s claim-to-fame is its wooden cabins on stilts that offer elevated views of endless bushveld terrain. There are only five chalets, which means a personalised safari experience. Guests are afforded abundant opportunities to spot wildlife on game drives, or from the comfort of camp.
Each of the five treehouse chalets is eye-level with the trees, offering private balconies with expansive views of the wilderness. Views from the rooms extend across the savannah, all the way to the Drakensberg mountains on the horizon. Rooms can sleep two people, and can be configured to be double or twin set-ups with ultra-luxurious beds and premium linen. Each treehouse is carefully constructed from heavy duty canvas walls, a thatched roof, and wooden flooring.
At night, it’s not uncommon to hear the rumble of elephants snacking on leaves from trees adjacent to the rooms, or hyenas scurrying beneath your raised platform of a floor. The central area is built from wood, and comprises an open-plan dining section, bar area, and relaxation lounge that flows out to the small splash pool. Just in front of the main area there is a small waterhole frequented by wildlife. Elephants regularly lumber down to the pool during the dry season, where guests can watch them drink.
Morning’s kick-off with a game drive through the Klaserie where guests will learn plenty about the wild from their knowledgeable guide. Evenings are spent in the back of an open-topped game viewer searching for predators.
nThambo Tree Camp is just perfect for a treehouse-style Klaserie Private Nature Reserve safari in the Greater Kruger.
A recent TripAdvisor guest commented, “We had a wonderful stay. The tree houses were beautiful with great views of any passing animals. The food was lovely too. We enjoyed the game drives and the staff was very knowledgeable about the area and the animals. We would love to return again soon.”
